Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

This policy covers two services operated by New Energy Education Limited:

  • Home Transition: the paid (£275/£475) independent home energy assessment service at hometransition.co.uk, covering solar, battery, heat pump, EV charging and tariff advice.
  • EVTransition: the free iOS app for finding the right EV, plus the marketing site at hometransition.co.uk/ev-transition.

Where a section applies to only one of the two services, it’s marked accordingly.

Who we are

The data controller is New Energy Education Limited, a private limited company registered in England & Wales. We are based in the United Kingdom and process personal data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can reach our data protection contact at angusevtransition@gmail.com.

Information we collect : Home Transition

When you book or enquire about a Home Transition assessment, we collect:

  • Contact details : name, email address, optional phone number.
  • Property details : postcode, first line of address, property type, roof orientation. Used to model solar yield, EPC lookup, and DNO context.
  • Energy use : current tariff, heating fuel, annual kWh (if you provide it), and where you choose to share it, half-hourly smart-meter consumption data uploaded via CSV or pulled with your consent through a smart-meter data aggregator (see “Third-party services” below).
  • Scope and plans : what technologies you’re considering (solar, battery, heat pump, EV charger, tariff optimisation), existing installer quotes you share with us, timeline, and free-text notes.
  • Payment : payments are processed by Stripe via a one-time payment link. We do not see or store card details.

We do not store your in-home display MAC address, MPAN/MPRN, or meter serial numbers in our database. Where we ingest smart-meter readings, we pseudonymise on receipt: only the half-hourly kWh values and their UTC timestamps are retained for the analysis.

Information we collect : EVTransition app

When you use the EVTransition iOS app, we collect information you provide directly, such as your vehicle preferences and driving habits, and information collected automatically, such as app usage data, crash reports, and device type. If you sign in, we collect the name and email address provided by Apple Sign In. We do not collect financial information; all in-app purchases are handled by Apple.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Deliver the service you’ve asked for : produce your assessment report (Home Transition) or provide app recommendations (EVTransition).
  • Communicate with you about your assessment, including the booking confirmation email, payment link, the final report, and any follow-up arranged as part of the Plus Plan.
  • Improve the service : diagnose technical issues, refine our modelling, and check the quality of our recommendations against real-world outcomes.
  • Comply with our legal and tax obligations.

Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are performance of a contract (for paying customers receiving a Home Transition report), consent (for smart-meter data sharing and marketing emails), and legitimate interests (for improving the service and protecting against fraud).

Data retention

Home Transition: we keep the data you submit and your delivered report for as long as your account or commercial relationship is active, plus seven years after to meet UK accounting and tax record-keeping obligations. You may request earlier deletion of the underlying personal data at any time; we will retain a minimal commercial record (date, anonymised report ID, value) for the statutory period. Smart-meter consumption CSVs used for your report are retained alongside the report; you can request deletion of the raw CSV separately from the rest of the file at any time.

EVTransition app: we retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory reasons.

Abandoned assessment intakes: if you start a Home Transition assessment but don’t finish the booking, we retain the name and email you provided (and only those fields) for up to 90 days. We use this under legitimate interest to check in once and ask if you got stuck or have questions. You can ask us to delete this earlier at any time.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored using Firebase (Google Cloud), with the relevant Firebase project located in the EU region. We apply industry-standard technical measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access control on the admin interface, and pseudonymisation of smart-meter readings on receipt. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services as data processors:

  • Google (Firebase, Cloud Storage, App Hosting, Gmail SMTP) : hosting, database, file storage, and transactional email delivery.
  • Stripe : payment processing for Home Transition fees. We share your name, email and the assessment reference; Stripe handles all card details and payment confirmation directly.
  • Smart-meter data aggregator (Home Transition only) : where you choose to share live smart-meter data rather than upload a CSV, we use a consumer-consent platform (n3rgy or equivalent) to retrieve your half-hourly readings via the UK Data Communications Company. You give consent directly to the aggregator and may withdraw it at any time. We receive only the pseudonymised consumption values, not your meter identifier or address.
  • Apple (Sign In, App Store) : for EVTransition app authentication and payment processing. Apple’s privacy policy applies to data handled by Apple.
  • Telegram Bot API : we receive internal operator notifications when new intake submissions arrive. The Telegram message contains your name, email, postcode and a summary of your enquiry, sent only to the business owner’s account.

We do not use third-party advertising networks or tracking pixels. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

Data sharing

We will never share your personal data with installers, suppliers, comparison sites, or any third party for marketing purposes. The only parties who see your data are the processors listed above (Google, Stripe, etc.), and only where they need it to operate the relevant part of the service. We will share data if compelled to by law or by a regulator with valid authority.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your data (subject to statutory retention obligations)
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Data portability (receive your data in a machine-readable format)
  • Withdraw consent at any time for smart-meter data sharing or marketing emails
  • Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk)

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at angusevtransition@gmail.com. Quote your assessment reference if you have one. We will respond within one month.

Children’s privacy

Neither the Home Transition service nor the EVTransition app is directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify existing customers of significant changes by email; the “last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
